Robert Topel is a Partner at Econic Partners and the Isidore Brown and Gladys J. Brown Distinguished Service Professor of Economics Emeritus at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Professor Topel is a renowned leader in the field of microeconomics, with a particular focus on industrial organization and antitrust, labor markets, health economics, and the application of statistics to economic data. Professor Topel is a highly regarded economic consultant and sought after testifying expert on antitrust, pricing, intellectual property and employment matters.
A leading scholar of markets and prices, he served as the Director of the George J. Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at The University of Chicago and the Director of the Energy Policy Institute at Chicago (EPIC). In addition, Professor Topel previously served as editor of the Journal of Political Economy from 1993 to 2003, and on the editorial board of the American Economic Review, the two leading professional journals in economics. Professor Topel was also a founding editor of the Journal of Labor Economics, and in 2004, he was elected an inaugural Fellow of the Society of Labor Economists. Professor Topel is a published author of several books on the application of economic theory to policy issues, as well as more than 60 professional journal articles.
Professor Topel has received numerous academic awards including the 2007 Kenneth J. Arrow Award from the International Health Economics Association and the 2005 Research!America’s Eugene Garfield Economic Impact of Medical and Health Research Award.
Prior to joining Econic Partners, Dr. Topel was previously a Senior Consultant at CRA, Managing Director at Navigant Economics and a Founding Partner of Chicago Partners, LLC.
