Georges Siotis is a Senior Consultant and Academic Affiliate at Econic Partners and an Associate Professor of Economics at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain with an extensive academic background. Professor Siotis currently teaches EU Competition Policy (undergraduate), Empirical Industrial Organization (graduate), and European Economic Governance (graduate). He is also a Research Fellow for the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and Senior Fellow for the Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovation in Healthcare (i3h).
Professor Siotis’s research revolves around the empirical analysis of competitive processes, with a current focus on the Commission’s Pharmaceutical Reform proposal and the legislative framework applicable to Orphan Drugs that treat Rare Diseases.
Previously, Professor Siotis was a member of DG Competition’s Chief Economist Team from 2008-2011, where he worked on the development of horizontal policies and actively participated in merger, antitrust, and state aid cases. He also participated in the EU Commission’s Sector Inquiry of the EU Pharmaceutical Industry. From 2011-2015, Professor Siotis was Senior Economic Advisor and Technical Assistance Coordinator (for Labour and Welfare policies, Social Security, Innovation), in the EU Commission’s Task Force for Greece. Professor Siotis has also conducted consultancy work in competition related matters.
Professor Siotis earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, his Masters of Advanced European Studies (Economics) from the College of Europe (Bruges), and his Ph.D. in Economics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ECARES).
